CONCLUSIONS
During the
Debates/Conclusions session of the Conference, the participants agreed
on the following items:
1. Establishment of the Association of Balkan Librarians and Libraries—ABLL).
This association does not overlap with the mission, goals and objectives
of the Association of the National Libraries of the Balkans, etablished
at the 2nd Conference of Librarians of the Balkan Countries.
2.
The Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs will assume responsibility
to register ---the Association.
3.
Hermina G.B. Anghelescu was appointed General Commissionary of ABLL in
charge of drafting the statute of the Association that will be discussed
on the Balkan Librarians listserv () as well as during the 4th Conference
of Librarians of the Balkan Countries.
4.
Romania will host the 4th Conference of Librarians of the Balkan Countries,
28-31 July 2003, week that preceeds the Annual IFLA Conference. The 4th
Conference of Librarians of the Balkan Countries will coincide with the
Romanian-American conference on Digital Libraries: Electronic Collections
and Resource Sharing.
5.
The Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs will sponsor the publication
of the Proceedings of the 3rd Conference of Librarians of the Balkan Countries
that will be published as a bilingual Romanian/English edition. Hermina
G.B. Anghelescu will be the editor of the volume.
6.
The authors of the papers presented at the 3rd Conference of Librarians
of the Balkan Countries were asked to revise their papers and submit them
to Hermina G.B. Anghelescu by 1 December 2002 to be edited and translated
into Romanian.
7. The web page of the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs (http://www.ministerulculturii.ro/minister.html)
will host the ABLL page. A link will be provided from the Internet club/library
sector and non-government organization Librarians without Borders (http://www.balkanlibrary.net).
Issues that have not been discussed but need attention for the 4th Conference
of Librarians of the Balkan Countries:
1. Promotion of ABLL and of the series of conferences of the Librarians
of the Balkan Countries throughout the Balkans, in all Balkan countries
through library-related listservs and direct contact with librarians in
these countries.
2. Mailing the invitations for the 4th Conference of Librarians of the
Balkan Countries. Mr. Florin Rotaru, State Secretary at the Ministry of
Culture and Religious Affairs will contact his counterparts in all Balkan
countries.
3. Call for papers with 15 March 2003 as deadline for submission of full
papers in English (in narrative form, not just the outline). The theme
of the 2003 conference will be: Digital Libraries: Electronic Collections
and Resource Sharing. These papers will also be included in the volume
of Proceedings to be edited by Hermina G.B. Anghelescu. Therefore the
volume of Proceedings will be a cumulative work, including papers from
both the 3rd and the 4th Conference of Librarians of the Balkan Countries.
